The goal of 'elite program' is to cultivate top scientific research talents for the future. Since 2016, the School and Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM, Chinese Academy of Sciences) have jointly established 'elite program' of physics for undergraduates, who will be selected from the newly enrolled freshmen. This program has open enrollment and students will be admitted on a rolling basis. This program equips with professional tutors from the School and SIOM, adopts small class teaching, and implements personalized trainings.

Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering
Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering is a new undergraduate program established under the background of the rapid development of the Internet of Things, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence technologies, and the Moore's Law bottleneck of traditional integrated circuits technology. This program covers the fundamental theories and applications of optoelectronic information processing, photodetection, optoelectronic display, lighting, photovoltaics, optical communication, optical information storage, optical computing technology and optoelectronic system design. It aims to cultivate students with innovative consciousness, broad knowledge and practical skills. They will become qualified professionals capable of scientific research, technology development and application, product design and manufacturing, and operation management in the fields of optoelectronic information detection, storage, processing, transmission and display technology and etc.
After graduation, the students can enter the professions related to the optoelectronic display, lighting, photodetection, optical communications, optoelectronic measurement and control, laser processing, photovoltaics, information storage and artificial intelligence.
